The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. --Psalm 23 (NIV)

Over the last few days, I have been reading some of John's many, many comments, replies and notes from the Digital Notesfile - an internal online discussion forum where many different topics have been discussed over the years. Note 1.0 was entered in July 1989 and all notes have been preserved since then. Through all of the company changes, this notesfile has retained its original name.

What really struck me was that John was the type of person who had an upbeat and positive personality that never seemed to change. His replies and comments from 1994 were very similar to those he entered only a month or 2 ago.

Some of his funnier tongue-in-cheek replies are classics that really highlight the type of person he was.

John's spirit will live on in his notesfile replies, his books and in the hearts of his family, close friends, fellow HP workers and OpenVMS Ambassadors from around the globe.
